It's Been a Long Time!!!

Hello Everyone! I know it has been a long time since I have written, but I have the same excuse as everyone else...no time! Where does it go? I mean...in a few months it will be Christmas again. I can not believe it & my checkbook can't either!!! Anyway, I have not fallen off the face of the earth. I thought I may catch you up with what has been happening here in the McCann household through the summer with a few pictures. The first week in June we went to a family reunion for Kyle's family down at Toledo Bend in LA. We had a great time of playing games, fishing, visiting, eating... I didn't take any pictures of that. But, a few weeks later we went to Hilton Head, SC & took plenty of pictures. This was an awesome trip. We had such a great time.

Then, a few weeks later, the girls & I loaded up the Volvo & headed to Colorado to see my family. This was a lot of fun too. The girls rode one of Daddy's horses & he took them on a ride on his front loader tractor. We all went tubing. (Rhonda & I flipped). And, we did many other things. But, most importantly, we were able to hang out with all the family.

August was a big month for Caroline. She got her ears pierced. She learned to ride her bike without training wheels, lost her 3rd tooth, and started first grade. BTW, she loves school! Catherine had a little bit of a problem with beginning Kindergarten, but we have gotten through it. She was determined not to go to school. We went through all kinds of crying (me & her). It was not fun.

Now, you say to me, "What are you doing with your time?" Well, a few weeks ago, the principal of the girls' elementary school called b/c my name had been brought up about this cafeteria duty aid position. And, surprisingly, I was very excited about her calling me. It is from 10:30-12:30 M-F. I get to see my girls everyday at lunch & all the other kiddos. All I have to do is make sure they come in, get seated okay, help open food that they can't open, & dismiss them. I have so enjoyed this. Believe me, it is not the best paid position in the world, in fact, it is probably minimum wage (I don't know what that is right now). But, it gets me out of the house enough to not get bored & then I come home to take care of my house. So, yes, I have been busy. I am still getting up every morning to walk on my treadmill for an hour. And on M-W-F I go to a class at a local church called Fit 4 Christ. It is an awesome workout. So I am trying to stay in shape which is getting harder in my 30's.

Well, I know that I have written a lot, but at least you know what I have been doing lately. I have not forgotten about all of you. I miss you all & hopefully will be back to communicate a little more often.

Our First Family Camping Trip

Our first camping trip was wonderful! We stayed close to the Beaver Lake Dam. After asking the girls if they wanted to stay in a cabin (which we were hoping) or in a tent, of course, they responded with "A TENT!!!" "Okay!...Well...I guess we'll do it one time just for the girls"...was our response! It is all about making memories for them...right?!?! We only could do it for one night b/c church Sunday morning & Kyle is helping out a lot with the Sunday School now. So we arrived on Friday afternoon. Kyle started the campfire & we set up the tent. The girls had already made new friends by this time & were riding their bikes all over the grounds. We had hot dogs & smores (the best ever, I might add). About 9:30 the girls went to sleep in the tent & we followed a while later. I have to admit...it was not as bad as I was expecting. We all slept pretty good. When we woke up, it was about 50 degrees outside & Kyle started the fire again. We all warmed up by the fire while Kyle started cooking. He got the iron skillet & fried bacon, scrambled eggs, & we even got this cool toaster thing that sits on top of the burner. So, we toasted bread & had peanut butter toast. You can't beat that! The girls were off with their friends again for a while & then we all rode bikes around the area that morning. Then we topped it all off by canoing down Beaver Lake for 4 hours. It was the first time the girls had ever gone & they did great! We actually look forward to another camping trip & more memories to make!

Pink Eye!!!

Caroline & I have had our share of pink eye. Caroline got hit hard with it on Saturday night & all day Sunday. She looked like an ant Saturday morning with swollen squinty red eyes. I even got to have a taste of pink eye on Tuesday night & Wednesday. Luckily it was only in one eye for me. I also woke up with a cold so I have been feeling pretty miserable. I have to say though, Caroline must be really tough. She complained one time of her eyes hurting Saturday afternoon. And, when I got it Tuesday afternoon, I couldn't get over how much it is a constant scratchiness on my eye. It was like a piece of fuzz was constantly in my eye. Anyway, I will post a picture of my little ant, but I will spare you a picture of me.

Tea Party

Well, I was just on my computer using my time wisely cruising through MySpace and my girls were having a grand time in "their little space". I could here them laughing & talking & giggling down the hall. The door was closed, so I went to open it. Their they were tucked back in a corner having a tea party with water, sipping & "eating" water out of cups and plates. I was about to get upset b/c I never let them have water outside of the kitchen, but they were having a great time. I told them I would go get them a towel & I also came back with my camera. This was just one of those moments you have to sit back & enjoy.

Visiting Great Grandma!

Every time we go to Shreveport we visit my grandmother, my dad's mom. We take a picture of the girls with her & put it on the fridge so they can always remember her. Mamaw is almost 82 years old & she is doing great. She is a blessing to visit. Some of you guys may recognize her because she attends Springs of Grace. On the way to her house Caroline asked, "Will Mamaw have mints this time in her bowl?" I told her that Mamaw always has had mints in that bowl & always will. I remember getting mints out of that same dish when I was little. We only get to see her once, maybe twice a year, but those girls are already making memories. It's pretty neat.

BUSY! BUSY! BUSY!

I know you all understand what I am talking about when I say "BUSY"! My house has been literally neglected for 3 weeks! The week before last I was planning for a Women's Retreat for that weekend b/c I am on the Women's Ministries Board at our church. I also volunteer to cook a lot at the church & so I was preparing food for the retreat. I had St. Patrick's Day Parties on top of that at the schools & packing for our LA trip. We were leaving immediately after the retreat on Saturday. Kyle & I dropped the girls off in Alexandria at his parents & we headed on to New Orleans until Thursday. We had a great time. He had a conference until noon everyday & we ate & walked the rest of the days. WE ATE GOOD!!! Then we came back to reality when we rescued our girls & drove up to Shreveport for the next weekend. We were able to visit my grandmother, aunt, cousins, & my friend Michele Scott (Creighbaum). It was a great week & a long vacation. Now, we are back home & are on Spring Break! So, while I am trying to catch up on laundry & ironing, the girls are playing with friends & each other outside everyday. I may actually be able to do some house cleaning tomorrow. But, Kyle just left to go fishing in OK with his dad until Saturday & I usually have a hard time getting motivated to do anything while he is gone. We will see!!! So...I don't have any pictures at the moment, but I wanted to let you guys know that we are doing well.

Nightly Routine

Here is what I see every night at 7:30 in our home. Caroline & Catherine look forward to reading their Bible with Daddy before going to sleep. Their are 2 different Bibles: one is for Daddy & Daughter and the other is for Momma & Daughter. They are really good with a little devotional at the end of each story. We hope & pray we are teaching the girls to love Jesus at an early age so they will never stray from the things of the Lord!

Sick Kids

So, today I brought Catherine home from school. We were at Eureka Pizza for an "educational" field trip on food groups and Catherine is whiny about everything. I was about to pull my hair out (or hers) yesterday because she was whiny all day. So, I thought she must not be feeling well. We came home & took her temperature...yes...99.9. Well, I guess it's another full day of High School Musical for me. Caroline was home from school on Thursday & Friday last week because of fever & headaches, so I guess it's Catherine's turn. Needless to say, the girls & I know every single word of High School Musical. At least it's a really good movie. If you liked Grease back in the day, you should try this one. It is a lot cleaner for the kiddos, but has lots of singing & dancing.

Surviving A Sleepover

Well, we survived our first sleepover. For Caroline's sixth birthday we had 4 of her school friends over to spend the night. We all had a great time. First we loaded the car & went to Fun City (kind of like a Chuck E Cheese's). When we came home we had cake decorated by Caroline & Catherine & of course some ice cream. I have to say the cake was too cute. They did a great job! The girls played dress up, I painted their nails, & we watched High School Musical. The girls were all asleep by 10:15 all in the same room. I was impressed. Kyle & I heard the first talking & laughing at 7:00 in the morning. Kyle went to Daylight Donuts & bought them some donuts. After eating breakfast on the floor of the den in front of the fire Kyle started for us, the girls painted until Moms/Dads came to pick them up. Caroline & Catherine had a great time & I believe the others did too.

Our Girls!

Here are the girls! Caroline is the brunette. She will be 6 tomorrow (on Elizabeth's birthday). She is still in to dressing up. She loves to play outside. Caroline & Kindergarten go together. She has just clicked with her teacher and classmates, and we are careful to give God all the glory for that.
Catherine is 4 1/2. She is something else. Catherine is extremely laid back. She will play in the play room all day if I have things around the house to do. I will never even here from her. But, she is great to sit down & play with also. She loves Barbies, dressing up, puzzles & games. Most of all, these girls love to play with each other. There is no one they would rather play with than one another. They are best friends, and anyone who knows them knows this is true. They are truly blessings from above!

The McCann's

This blogging is all new to me, but I will try my best to keep it up.
Kyle & I have been married 10 years and we have 2 sweet girls, Caroline & Catherine. We have truly been blessed way more than we could have ever imagined. The Lord is so good!
